Aluminum 6061 CNC Machining

6061(T6) aluminum alloy is a high-quality aluminum alloy product produced by heat treatment and pre-stretching process.6061 aluminum material belongs to heat-treatable strengthening alloys, with good formability, weldability, and machinability. It has medium strength and can maintain good operability after annealing. The main alloying elements of 6061 aluminum material are magnesium and silicon, which form the Mg2Si phase. If a certain amount of manganese and chromium is added, it can neutralize the adverse effect of iron. A small amount of copper or zinc can be added to improve the strength of the alloy without significantly reducing its corrosion resistance. Copper can be added to offset the adverse effect of titanium and iron on conductivity. Zirconium or titanium can refine grains and control recrystallization structure. In order to improve machinability, lead and bismuth can be added. When Mg2Si is dissolved in aluminum, the alloy has an artificial aging hardening function.

Heat Treatment Process

Rapid annealing: heating temperature of 350-410°C; depending on the effective thickness of the material, the holding time is between 30-120 minutes; air or water cooling.

High-temperature annealing: heating temperature of 350-500°C; when the finished product thickness is ≥6mm, the holding time is 10-30 minutes, and when it is less than 6mm, heat through air cooling.

Low-temperature annealing: heating temperature of 150-250°C; holding time is 2-3 hours; air or water cooling.Homogenization: at 570 degrees Celsius, holding for 7 hours, air-cooled.Warm Reminder: The density of 6061 aluminum alloy is 2800 kg/m^3.
